Prezi Informative Script
S- Welcome back to technology today, we have a very special guest with us today. Emily Abbott is closely affiliated with Prezi and is here to answer a few questions about the new online presentation software. Emily feels that she knows the ins and outs of Prezi and was nice enough to join us today. Thanks for stopping by Emily.
E-Thanks for having me Stuart, it’s a pleasure to be here on your show today.
S- I’m sure some of our listeners are already familiar with Prezi, but for those that aren’t, could you give us a quick overview?
E-It would be my pleasure. As stated by pcmag.com, Prezi is a cloud-based (SaaS) presentation software and storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas.
S-Interesting, now that we have a better idea of what Prezi is, could you talk a bit about how the software works?
E-Sure thing, the most noticeable and memorable feature about Prezi is that it works as an interactive presentation tool. What I mean by interactive is the product employs a zooming user interface (ZUI), which allows users to zoom in and out of their presentation media, and allows users to display and navigate through information within a 2.5D or parallax 3D space on the Z-axis.
S-Lets zoom in more on this product, talk a bit about the organizational structure of how presentations in Prezi are laid out?
E- The user places objects on a canvas and navigates between videos, images, texts and other presentation media. Frames allow grouping of presentation media together as a single presentation object. Paths are navigational sequences that connect presentation objects for the purposes of structuring a linear presentation.
S-On a slightly different note, it’s important to remember that presenters often collaborate with each other to communicate ideas. When using prezi, must the user always be isolated or alone in their work?
E-That sounds very lonely and depressing. The last thing our company wants is for presenters to feel as though they are alone in their work. Prezi Collaborate is an online collaboration feature that allows up to ten people (co-located or geographically separated) to co-edit and show their presentations in real time. Users participate in a prezi simultaneously, and each is visually represented in the presentation window by a small avatar.
S-In this day and age of mobile technology, it’s very common for people to function completely off of their smart phones or tablets. Is there an accessible app that can be used when using Prezi presentations?
E-How exciting that you asked! According to Tech Crunch, a site that keeps users informed on the modern world of technology, there is now an available Prezi app for the iPad! The app cannot be used to create or edit Prezis in the making, but it can be used to present previously created Prezi works. It’s important to keep in mind that the “iPad doesn’t support Flash, so not all existing presentations can be viewed in full if they contain Flash material such as videos.” (TechCrunch.com)
S-That’s good to know. On a separate note, could you talk a bit about the history of Prezi? It’s fairly new yes?
E- Prezi was officially established in 2009 by co-founders Adam Somlai-Fischer, Peter Halacsy and Peter Arvai. Prezi is developed in Adobe Flash, Adobe AIR and built on top of Django. It is therefore compatible with most modern computers and web browsers. Viewing Prezis is also possible without Adobe Flash, using only Javascript.
E-One important question you haven’t asked me yet is “is our product free?”
S-Gee, I didn’t think of that, is the product free?
E-Thank you, I’m so glad you asked. Prezi is available with no charge to all users that want to incorporate it into their presentations. Simply go to Prezi.com, and click “get started” and choose the public option. According to their official site, after signing up you can always access your presentations and projects anywhere that Internet is available. It’s important to note, however, that Prezi uses the freemium model. Customers who use the product's Public license must publish their work on the Prezi.com website, which is publicly viewable.
