Book Cover

Here is the book cover I submitted for our class book.

Our class book topic was fictional creatures. We also each submitted a potential class book for the final product.

My book cover was created in InDesign. I am particularly proud of my cover because while I struggled with the design at first, I am very happy with the final product. Once I decided I wanted it to have an old fairy tale book theme, I faced the challenge of finding the correct font for the "O". I searched through many sites with free fonts until I found the perfect one and then learned how to download, edit, and place it onto my InDesign canvas. A dragon seemed like the perfect cover page creature to represent all fictional creature because it is well known and in many ways is a symbol of magic, the unknown, and power--all of which are characteristics that the creatures within this book hold.

Two-Page Spread

This is the two-page spread I submitted for our class book.

Each student chose a fictional creature and created a two-page spread explaining the creature and providing a narrative.

My spread was created in InDesign. I chose to write on the Rodents of Unusual Size (ROUS) because they derrive from my favorite movie, The Princess Bride. The image spread across the top of both pages is of the fire swamp, which is where the ROUS reside in the movie. This image sets the tone and gives the reader a better idea of what the fire swamp looks like since it too is a fictional place.

The image of an ROUS at the bottom of the right page gives the reader an accurate visual of what this creature looks like. I chose this image specifically because it appears as though it is a continuation of the top image, due to it's background.
